EPRN General Assembly 2018

On 20th July 2018, Economic Policy Research Network (EPRN Rwanda) organized a general assembly which took place at Classic Hotel. The main points of this meeting was to discuss about activities carried out by EPRN for last year and work plan for the New Year.

EPRN Coordinator presented an activity report for the year 2017-2018 and the work plan for 2018-2019 so that members can approve activities in that work plan. Activities done by Economic Policy Research Network (EPRN) include organizing the 4th EPRN annual research conference, student conference, high level policy dialogues, public lectures and trainings including practical ones.

He also gave more information on student conference, which will facilitate young academics’ knowledge on Rwanda’s comparative advantages in the African Continental free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He said that the main objective of the EPRN Student Competition and Conference 2018 is to create awareness on economic issues and ignite the research spirit among university students. He provided the timeline including specific dates and deadlines of activities that will lead to the final of the student conference and competition.

EPRN coordinator continued by sharing information about the 5th EPRN research conference which will take place in January 2019. He said that this year’s main theme is “The African Continental Free Trade Area : Challenges and Opportunities” which will be broken down into six sub-themes : Regional Integration, Made in Rwanda, Productivity industrialization and competitiveness (Rwanda and Africa), Innovation and Creativity, Social transformation and Human Capital Development.

He concluded by encouraging researchers and student to be engaged in those activities as they will not only strengthen their skills but also will be awarded.

At the end of the event, a paper on financial access under the microscope was presented by Andre F. Presbitero.
