Call for application for a Professional Training : “Introduction to SPSS for statistical analysis”
1. Introduction
This three days training program course is designed for those who would like to learn the basic skills necessary to analyse data using the statistical analysis software package SPSS. The emphasis will be put on microeconomic and macroeconomic modelling for policy scenario analysis. Quantitative methods and predictive modelling concepts will be extensively applied to test relationships and effects. Implementations are done in SPSS using different known datasets (EICV, DHS, Labor Force Survey, etc.). The training is very interactive and observations, interpretations, hypotheses, predictions and conclusions are amply explained and discussed throughout the training sessions.
SPSS is a Statistical Package for Social Sciences, a program used by thousands of private companies, public institutions, research institutes, academic organizations, individual researchers and analysts around the world to solve research problems. The Trainer uses a participatory, practical, visual, and non-mathematical approach to SPSS. From creating questionnaires and importing spreadsheets to running regression models and reporting results, this course covers essential statistical analysis tools, with an emphasis on clarity, interpretation, communicability, and application.
2. Training Content
The course shall cover the following :
a. Get started with SPSS
b. Levels of measurement of variables
c. Inputting questionnaire in SPSS
d. Creating new variables in SPSS
e. Coding variables
f. Importing existing data in SPSS i.e EICV5
g. Performing data transformations
h. Generating descriptive statistics
i. Graphs and Tables
j. Correlation & regression Analysis
3. Outcomes
After the training, participants are expected to be able to :
– Understand basic and intermediate use of SPSS features
– Answering micro and macroeconomic problems with statistical tools
– Perform statistical analyses in SPSS, including graphs, calculating measures of central tendency, and correlation
– Perform simple and multiple linear regression and interpret the results
4. Training methods
The training course will be run in a workshop style with a high degree of participant involvement. Adult learning methodologies will be employed, and participants will not be passive. Debate and discussion will be encouraged. The trainer will use a mix of presentations to define and explain key concepts and practical exercises using SPSS. The participants are advised to bring their laptops.
5. Certificate
EPRN will issue completion certificates to participants who successfully attended the course and pass the course test.
Note : At the end of the course, the trainer will deliver a test, and ONLY participants to pass the course with at least 60% will get the certificate. Others will be advised to wait until another training opportunity for the same course (free of charge).
6. Training Fees
- Members : 20,000 Rwf
- Non-members : 100,000 Rwf. (discount : for 2 trainees from one institution : each pays 70,000 Rwf ; from 3 trainees coming from one institution, each pays 50,000 Rwf).

NB : Applicants are required to bring their laptops. EPRN will provide lunch to participants.
