Call for Abstracts : 6TH EPRN ANNUAL ECONOMIC RESEARCH CONFERENCE

1. Introduction

The Economic Policy Research Network with support from GIZ Macroeconomic & Investment Policies programme and other partners, is organizing the 6th Annual Economic Research Conference that brings together researchers and policy makers to disseminate research findings from its scholars and those from other research and academic institutions. The 6th EPRN Annual Economic Research Conference is scheduled for February 25, 2020 in Kigali. The conference targets national and international researchers, academics, professionals and decision makers working in government, private sector enterprises and institutions, civil society organizations and development partners.

This year’s main theme is “Building Productive Capacities for Structural Economic Transformation”, which will be broken down into six sub-themes :
a. Enhancing productivity and competitiveness (incl. value chain linkages)
b. Improving access to markets (EAC, AfCFTA, other regional integration initiatives)
c. Promoting Made in Rwanda (domestic and external market capturing strategies)
d. Strengthening human capital for Structural Economic Transformation
e. Improving Business Environment for Structural Economic Transformation

Interested researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts related to one of the sub-themes. The selected papers will be presented during the conference and published through EPRN Research Paper Series and the EPRN website.

2. Review process

All papers will be reviewed by the EPRN Research Committee, consisting of reputable researchers and sector professionals. A paper will be accepted upon the Committee’s recommendation and provided that at least one of the authors is available to present the paper at the Conference.

3. Mentorship

Young researchers are—at their request and if deemed appropriate by the Committee—provided with one mentor (experienced researcher who has published a minimum of 3 papers in the area of the specific paper). The mentor has the responsibility to guide, supervise and transfer research skills to the young researchers.

4. Submissions and Key dates

Each interested researcher must submit an abstract (maximum 250 words) related to one of the sub-themes which, once accepted, can be developed to a full conference paper. Abstracts must be submitted in WORD or PDF format to : conference2020@eprnrwanda.org and copy to coordinator@eprnrwanda.org, no later than 15th July 2019. 5pm Kigali Time.

For the Conference paper preparation, the following timeline applies :

  • Deadline for abstract submission : 19th July 2019
  • Notification of acceptance from the Selection Committee : 31st July 2019
  • Provision of mentor at researcher’s request : 15th August 2019
  • Deadline for initial submission of full paper : 30th November 2019
  • Mentor and Reviewers comments sent to authors : 30th December 2019
  • Deadline for amended submissions : 30th January 2020
  • Final notification of acceptance : 10th February 2020
  • 6th EPRN Economic Research Conference : 25th February 2020
